Cardinals' Michael Wacha: Strong effort wasted Friday

Wacha (2-1) tossed six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out five in a no-decision against the Giants on Friday.

He threw 60 of 86 pitches for strikes, and given the swift collapse of the Cards bullpen after Wacha left the game, manager Mike Matheny might be regretting not trying to get another inning or two out of him. The 25-year-old has worked at least six innings in every start this season and provided a quality start in six of seven outings as he continues to put the memory of an injury-marred 2016 behind him.
