Cardinals' Trevor Rosenthal: Blows save Wednesday

Rosenthal was charged with his first blown save of the season in Wednesday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Red Sox, giving up two earned runs on a hit and a walk. He struck out two.

Rosenthal took over in the eighth and was tasked with serving as a bridge to Seung-Hwan Oh while protecting a 4-2 lead. He started the frame impressively enough by getting Mookie Betts on a swinging strikeout before walking Dustin Pedroia and subsequently giving up two runs on a Xander Bogaerts triple and Andrew Benintendi sacrifice fly. The stumble snapped a seven-appearance scoreless streak for the former closer, who also hadn't yielded a hit in his previous five trips to the mound. Rosenthal did notch a pair of strikeouts for the third straight outing, and his 27:4 K:BB makes him particularly valuable in both the strikeout and WHIP categories.
