Quentin was granted his request to be released Monday and appears likely to retire, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

The veteran outfielder had a June 1 opt-out clause in his contract if he chose to accept the assignment to Triple-A, but Quentin appears to only want to stay in baseball if he can get a spot on a major league roster. He could be a decent outfield depth option for a team looking for another outfielder, but there's a good chance that no team adds him, which would lead to Quentin's retirement.
