Schwarber played four innings behind the plate in a minor league game Friday, his first time at catcher this spring, William Boor of MLB.com reports.
Schwarber will primarily play left field this season, but he came up as a catcher and the Cubs plan on using him as an emergency option behind Willson Contreras and Miguel Montero. Schwarber blocked a few balls in the game and said his body felt good afterward. "I love catching," Schwarber said. "It's what I was whenever I played baseball. I was always a catcher. For me to be able to do that today and feel pretty good about myself walking away from the day, it was a good step."
