Utley batted leadoff and went 1-for-3 with a run scored before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the seventh inning of Wednesday's win over the Giants.

The veteran infielder has been seeing regular playing time at first base against righties over the past couple of weeks, but that run is likely coming to an end soon as Adrian Gonzalez (back) nears his return from the disabled list. Even with the expanded role, Utley has failed to bump his average above the Mendoza Line, as he's slashing an unsightly .188/.291/.290 in 79 plate appearances this season.
