Jackson was granted his release Saturday, and he intends to play in Japan next season, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports.

Jackson made six appearances for the Padres last season, spending most of the year at Triple-A El Paso, where he posted a 2.54 ERA to go with a 1.147 WHIP in 48 appearances. The 28-year-old will sign with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp, leaving the Padres with 39 players on their current 40-man roster.
