John Ely signs minor-league contract with Red Sox

The Red Sox have signed pitcher John Ely to a minor-league deal, with an invitation to spring training, according to the Houston Chronicle. Ely only pitched four innings last season before undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery. He last pitched in the majors for the Dodgers, making two relief appearances in 2012.
