The Braves traded Whalen to the Mariners on Monday, Jon Morosi of Fox Sports reports.

The Braves got prospect Alex Jackson in return. Whalen started five games and gave up 20 earned runs through 24.2 innings in his rookie season. He was transferred to the 60-day DL on Sept. 17 with a shoulder injury, but should be ready to go come spring training. The Mariners just traded Taijuan Walker to the Diamondbacks, so it makes sense that they would try to add a young arm that could potentially help fill a spot in the rotation.
