The Marlins placed Prado (hamstring) on the 10-day disabled list Sunday, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.

Prado was always expected to open the season on the DL after suffering a Grade 1 hamstring strain March 15 while playing for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic. The veteran infielder was cleared to resume baseball activities a few days ago, but the Marlins plan to bring him along slowly before clearing him for a rehab assignment. It's expected that he'll miss most or all of April, which will allow Derek Dietrich to serve as the team's primary third baseman in the interim.
