Only evil commissioners score the opening series in Australia
It's nice to see meaningful baseball on TV, but Fantasy commissioners should not count the first pair of games in Australia.
Seeing meaningful baseball on my television earlier today made my heart happy. But there are some evil commissioners out there that have chosen to count the first pair of games in Australia as part of the first scoring period of the season, which makes my heart sink.
By now most people have drafted or are in the process of drafting over the weekend. Certain providers like CBSSports.com allows you to customize nearly everything in your league, which is why I'm breathing easier today. I don't have to worry about these games affecting my Fantasy team. I have a few colleagues in meaningful leagues with other providers that are either forced to count the two-game series in Australia between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks, or start the Fantasy season in Week 2 (April 7-13).
It's a lose-lose situation, in my opinion.
So if you're in a Head-to-Head league and your team happens to face Clayton Kershaw of Hyun-Jin Ryu, you could be at a major disadvantage. It's almost a given that those guys will get three starts in the scoring period. Not to mention that most providers are considering the opening series as a doubleheader, which means that in daily leagues, your lineup locked at 4 a.m. last night.
If you're drafting after the Saturday games, don't let any of the performances affect your strategy. Also, if you're starting the Fantasy season in Week 2, chances are you're not getting the most out of your top-of-the-line pitchers. It's just not worth the trouble.
For those that are stuck in this predicament, I feel your pain. I'll pour one out for you while watching Ryu and Trevor Cahill duke it out tonight. Cheers!
