Lockett was optioned to minor league spring training Friday, John Schlegel of MLB.com reports.

The 22-year-old performed well in his three spring appearances, posting a 3.00 ERA with four strikeouts over six innings. Lockett propelled through the Padres' system last season, finishing the year with Triple-A El Paso after starting at at Low-A Fort Wayne. The righty was impressive at all levels, posting a 2.93 ERA, 1.3 BB/9 and 6.2 K/9 across 164 innings. He likely will start the 2017 season with Triple-A El Paso.
