Phillies' Howie Kendrick: Still not ready to start rehab assignment

Kendrick (oblique) said he is unable to say for sure when he'll be able to come off the disabled list, Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia reports. "I'm never going to put a date on it because I know these injuries are strange, man," Kendrick said. "It's getting better, but it stinks. You go two steps forward and you have the slightest thing set you back."

Kendrick most recently felt some soreness in his oblique after a flight Sunday from Washington to Dallas. He was able to take some groundballs before Wednesday's game, and could take batting practice over the weekend. Manager Pete Mackanin said he hopes to have Kendrick back in a week. Aaron Altherr looks to have secured the starting job in left field, so Kendrick is probably going to have to get his at-bats playing multiple positions when he is finally able to return.
