The Pirates designated pitcher Chris Volstad for assignment Sunday, the team announed.
Volstad tossed two scoreless innings during his lone appearance this season. Volstad was designated to make room for infielder Steve Lombardozzi. Lombardozzi is a career .265 hitter with five home runs and 52 RBI in 782 at-bats.
