Mercer went 1-for-4 with his first career grand slam Friday against the Brewers.
The shortstop is still only hitting .176/.256/.365 in 74 August at-bats, but he's already totaled four homers, a monthly best. Mercer ranks second among NL shortstops with a .986 fielding percentage behind the Phillies' Freddy Galvis (.988). He'll face Jimmy Nelson, against whom he has two hits in 12 career at-bats, on his 30th birthday Saturday.
