Pirates' Jung Ho Kang: Eight-month sentence upheld

Kang's eight-month prison sentence for DUI has been upheld by a South Korean court, USA Today reports.

Kang's chances of returning to the Pirates this season have been severely diminished, as he remains unable to get a work permit in the United States due to the pending prison sentence, which had been suspended for two years. The infielder had been hoping to see his punishment reduced to a fine, but the South Korean court deemed the suspended prison term "rational." Kang, who is in the third year of a four-year contract, may have very well seen his last MLB at-bat, barring an unexpected resolution to his visa issues. According to the South Korean court, it's unclear if Kang's problems obtaining a visa are a direct result of the suspended prison term.
