Beltre (calf) has already been ruled out for the first round of the World Baseball Classic, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
A Grade 1 calf strain for Beltre was announced Friday morning, but until the Rangers released a press release Friday night his status for the tournament's first round was still up in the air. Given Beltre's age and history of calf injuries, it's no surprise that all parties -- the Dominican Republic team, Beltre himself, and the Rangers -- want to play it safe in the first round. He is considered questionable for the World Baseball Classic's later rounds.
