Red Sox's Blake Swihart: On 7-day disabled list

Swihart was placed on the 7-day disabled list by Triple-A Pawtucket with a finger contusion.

Swihart endured a series foul balls hitting his finger during the first month of the season, and the PawSox wanted to make sure he gets back to full health in order to avoid recurrences of the injury, according to Tim Britton of the Providence Journal. The swelling has prevented him from comfortably gripping a bat, so the catcher can't even serve as a designated hitter. Swihart will be fitted for padding around the finger, and the club has been working with him on changing his hand position as he receives the ball to avoid such contact moving forward.
