Workman was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket on Sunday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Workman was sent down to make room for David Price (elbow), who will make his season debut Monday against the White Sox. He didn't see any action with the big club since being called up on May 21 and will return to Pawtucket, where he's compiled a 1.98 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 13.2 innings this season.
