Velazquez (0-1) allowed six runs on nine hits and two walks across five innings during Thursday's loss to the Athletics. He struck out four.

Making his big league debut, Velazquez was greeted by a pair of home runs from the hosts in the first inning to immediately tack three runs on his ledger. He allowed an RBI double and another two-run shot in the fourth as the A's then took a lead they would never relinquish. Velazquez had no trouble finding the strike zone, but rather missed over the plate far too often and was made to pay in his first taste of action at the highest level. He had an excellent run with Triple-A Pawtucket prior to being called up, but it is unclear what the plans are for his immediate future following this rough outing.
