Velazquez was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday, Tim Britton of The Providence Journal reports.
Velazquez was shelled for six runs in his lone start in Boston, and with the Red Sox needing a roster spot for recent call-up Sam Travis, the right-hander was a clear choice to send back to the minors. Velazquez will likely continue to develop as a starter with the PawSox until rotation help is needed at the big-league level once more.
