Ross was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday, Evan Drellich of CSN New England reports.

Ross has struggled a bit since his return to the majors, allowing five runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings pitched. With the Red Sox hoping for more out of their bullpen, Ross' minor-league options and recent performance ultimately spelled his doom. He will likely be back in Boston when the Red Sox need bullpen help again, but for the time being, Noe Ramirez will take his spot on the roster.
