DeSclafani (elbow) has been cleared to begin throwing, John Fay of WCPO.com reports.

He hasn't pitched since dealing with elbow tenderness at the beginning of spring training, so this is certainly a positive step for the 27-year-old. After posting a 3.28 ERA and 105 strikeouts over 20 starts with the Reds last season, DeSclafani will begin a gradual rehabilitation program with the long-term goal of returning in the second half of the regular season. Expect a firmer timetable to be established once he gets back into regular pitching activities.
