Sampson is not expected to start against the Pirates on Sunday.
The right-hander struck out seven over 4.2 scoreless innings against Milwaukee in a spot start Monday, and it looked like he might get another opportunity as the Reds were reportedly "leaning toward" pushing Dan Straily back. However, it now seems Straily will remain on normal rest as he is listed as the probable starter for Sunday. Sampson could end up starting a game early next week if Homer Bailey (biceps) is unable to go.
