Reds' Zack Cozart: Lands on DL with quad strain

Cozart was placed on the 10-day disabled list Monday with a strained right quadriceps.

Cozart missed a pair of games last week when his quadriceps injury first cropped up, and it appears he may have further injured himself attempting to return before he was ready; he started back-to-back games Friday and Saturday before missing Sunday's contest and subsequently landing on the DL. The 31-year-old will be missed by the Reds and fantasy owners, as he sports a healthy .320/.404/.562 slash line with nine homers and 33 RBI in 58 games (255 plate appearances) this season. It's unclear how long the injury will keep him sidelined, but he'll be eligible to return June 29 if he is ready. In the meantime, Jose Peraza and Arismendy Alcantara are the top options to take over at shortstop in his absence, while Scooter Gennett could also be in line for some increased playing time. Prospect Jesse Winker was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.
