Tigers' Anibal Sanchez: Heads back to minors

Sanchez accepted an optional assignment to Triple-A Toledo on Monday.

Sanchez has been dreadful out of the Tigers' bullpen this season, giving up 21 runs in as many innings of work. He'll head back to the minors to work out the kinks in his pitching, although his lengthy major-league experience could land him back in the big leagues fairly soon if he can figure things out against the decreased competition. Warwick Saupold was recalled to take his spot on the roster.
