Martinez has struggled in July, hitting just .156 (10-for-64) with a slash line of .156/.236/.313 heading into Saturday's game.
VMart has three home runs this month, but two were hit on July 1. In fact, that day was his most recent multi-hit game. Martinez is in the line-up to hit and only hit, but this slump has made him a liability in the clean-up role. Slumps can be expected, but he's well past 30 with a history of serious injuries. There's still gas in the proverbial tank, but right now, you should let him pick up a few splinters on your bench while you wait this out.
