Shields was a tough-luck loser Saturday versus the Angels, allowing just one run with two strikeouts and two walks across eight strong innings.
Shields actually went the distance as the Angels did not bat in the ninth, and he needed just 91 pitches to get through eight frames. He did well to limit baserunners and was only scored upon via a groundout in the first inning, lowering his ERA to 1.91 over his last four starts. Shields seems to finally recaptured the formula that made him an effective innings-eater for San Diego earlier this season and he will look to continue his recent success Thursday against the Tigers.
