Who's in, who's out in the late innings?
Closer turnover has been rampant early on. Which bullpens can you trust, and which teams are in for a change?
The Fantasy crew at CBSSports.com cares about your team. That's why we want to take a moment to make you aware of closer turnover. Closer turnover affects roughly 80 percent of Fantasy teams each season.* Side effects include headaches, sleepless nights, upset stomach, and talking yourself into Jose Valverde. If these side effects, particularly the Valverde one, last for over four hours, please consult a doctor.
We here at CBSSports.com don't want Fantasy owners to go through the pain and anguish of closer turnover. In order to fight back against this debilitating Fantasy malady, we'll take you through each team's current situation.
Safe closers - these guys are not in danger of losing their jobs:
Craig Kimbrel - It doesn't appear the shoulder issue is serious.
Koji Uehara - There's a chance he returns for Thursday's game.
Joe Nathan - The struggles are worrisome, but he'll continue to get opportunities.
In decent shape - May not be elite players, but should hold the job:
John Axford - Tough to get over what Cody Allen is doing, though.
Francisco Rodriguez - He's starting to put Jim Henderson in the rearview mirror.
Sergio Santos - Santos has performed well with Casey Janssen on the shelf.
Jonathan Broxton - He's safe until Aroldis Chapman returns.
LaTroy Hawkins - As long as Rex Brothers continues to allow walks, Hawkins is safe.
Shawn Kelley - Should be fine until David Robertson returns.
High alert - These players could lose their jobs soon if they don't improve.
Cubs closer - Pedro Strop seems like the safest option, but the team said it's up for grabs.
Matt Lindstrom - Has now pitched three scoreless outings, but Nate Jones looms.
Astros closer - It's anyone's game here. Josh Fields has upside, Chad Qualls has experience.
Jose Valverde - It doesn't seem like he'll make it much longer.
Athletics closer - Jim Johnson has gone three scoreless innings. He could be back in business.
Joakim Soria - It's unclear if he'll keep his job once the team deems Neftali Feliz ready.
