Tanaka (5-6) allowed five runs on five hits and one walk across five innings in Tuesday's loss to the Red Sox. He struck out two.

Tanaka fell victim to the long ball in this one, allowing three home runs across the fourth and fifth innings to account for four of the runs on his ledger. The right-hander threw just 62 pitches in five frames, but general ineffectiveness caused manager Joe Girardi to turn to the bullpen early. Tanaka has endured a dreadful run over his last five starts, allowing at least five earned runs in four of those while allowing 11 home runs in just 22.2 innings in that span to inflate his ERA to 6.55. He is currently scheduled to face the Orioles on Sunday, but the club could reevaluate his status in the rotation if he continues to deliver these types of results.
