A minor league player in the Washington Nationals organization has been charged with having sex with a 15-year-old girl. Harrisburg Senators outfielder Garrett Guzman had sex with the girl in late July, police alleged in documents filed in district court Sept. 4. Guzman was charged with a misdemeanor count of corruption of minors.
The Twins traded outfielder Garrett Guzman to the Nationals in exchange for a player to be named later. The Twins now have 34 players at spring training, including four non-roster players.
The Nationals agreed to terms on one-year contracts with RHP Jason Bergmann, OF Roger Bernadina, LHP Matt Chico, RHP Tyler Clippard, OF Elijah Dukes, C Jesus Flores, RHP Enrique Gonzalez, OF Garrett Guzman, RHP Joel Hanrahan, RHP Shawn Hill, OF Justin Maxwell and RHP Saul Rivera.
The Nationals selected infielder Matt Whitney (seventh overall) from the Indians and outfielder Garrett Guzman (16th overall) from the Twins in the major-league phase of the 2007 Rule 5 Draft. These players will have to spend the season the roster or be offered back to the original club for a cash fee.
