Valbuena went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the A's. The veteran infielder made things interesting in the ninth by plating Jose Altuve with his run-scoring hit, but A's reliever Ryan Dull was able to get Marwin Gonzalez on strikes to end the game. Valbuena has started July off wielding a hot bat, as he now has a six-game hitting streak and is slashing .345/.412/.690 over his first 29 at-bats of the month.
Valbuena went 3-for-5 with a double, a homer, two runs and four RBI Friday against the Athletics. Valbuena's 12th homer of the year was a three-run walk-off shot that gave the Astros a wild 10-9 victory. He's now homered in three of his last four games to raise his slugging percentage to .478 on the year.
Valbuena is out of the lineup Sunday against the White Sox. Valbuena is sitting out strictly for matchup-based purposes with the White Sox bringing lefty Jose Quintana to the hill. The switch-hitting Marwin Gonzalez will cover third base in Valbuena's stead.
Valbuena went 1-for-2 with two walks, a home run and two runs scored during Wednesday's 10-4 win over the Angels. The Astros were lacking offensive production from the hot-corner earlier this season, but Valbuena is hitting .326/.445/.539 with four homers, 12 RBI and 19 walks over the last 30 days. His nine home runs are well behind the 25 he hit last season, but he's getting on base (.359) at a much higher clip and his .809 OPS is currently the best of his career.
Valbuena went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts hitting out of the two-hole during Tuesday's 7-1 win over the Angels. Valbuena does have two three-hit performances over his last four games, but Tuesday's Golden Sombrero dropped his batting average from .263 to .257 on the season.
