The Cubs designated Cody Ransom for assignment Sunday, as they needed to clear a roster spot for starting pitcher Scott Baker. Ransom has hit .189 with nine home runs and 20 RBI for the Cubs and Padres this season.
Cubs infielder Cody Ransom provided much of the team's offense Wednesday, in a 13-2 loss to the Angels. Ransom went 2 for 4 with a double and a home run, finishing with one RBI. He also scored twice in the loss. Ransom is hitting .243 on the season, however he does have an .886 OPS thanks to nine home runs and seven doubles in 107 at-bats.

Ransom, who was plucked off waivers from San Diego in mid-April, is happy he's able to contribute. "I'm getting a chance to play," he said to ESPN. "I'm comfortable with who I am as a player, finally, and I'm confident in what I can do and what I can bring to a team. I don't try and do too much, get the work in on the days you're not playing and go out and try to do one thing a day to help your team win."

Ransom hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning off Angels starter Jason Vargas, his fifth of the season. Ransom added a double to finish 2 for 4. He is batting .236 in 72 at-bats on the season.
