The Yankees removed 12 players from their spring roster Tuesday. Outfielder Ramon Flores was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, while Francisco Arcia, Tyler Austin, Bruce Billings, Robert Coello, Brian Gordon, Corban Joseph, Mark Montgomery, Pete O'Brien, Jose Pirela, Mason Williams and Chase Whitley were reassigned to minor-league camp.
The Yankees announced Wednesday they signed nine players to minor-league contracts, which included an invitation to spring training. They were pitcher Bruce Billings, infielder Russ Canzler, pitcher Robert Coello, pitcher Brian Gordon, pitcher Chris Leroux, outfielder Antoan Richardson, infielder Scott Sizemore, infielder Yangervis Solarte and infielder Zelous Wheeler.
The Oakland Athletics pared down their roster Sunday, optioning outfielders Grant Green and Michael Taylor to Triple-A Sacramento. Both players were in the running for a spot on the opening day roster this spring, but could make an appearance with the parent club at some point during the season. The Athletics also reassigned pitcher Brian Gordon, catcher Dave Freitas, first baseman Scott Moore, shortstop Dawrin Perez and outfielder Michael Choice to their minor-league camp.
CBSSports.com senior baseball writer Danny Knobler reports that the Yankees have accepted an offer to sell RHP Brian Gordon to SK Wyverns of Korea. Gordon was optioned down to the minors last Saturday.
