    • Melancon notched his 29th save with a scoreless ninth inning in Saturday's 7-4 victory over the Phillies. He struck out two. The veteran closer has bounced back nicely from a pair of consecutive blown saves earlier in July, now having converted back-to-back save opportunities on the strength of two scoreless outings. Melancon is having a solid July despite the earlier hiccups, converting five of seven save chances and also recording a victory.

    • Pirates' Mark Melancon: Nails down 28th save
      By RotoWire Staff

Melancon struck out one in the course of a perfect ninth inning Thursday against the Brewers for his 28th save in 31 tries. The Pirates' closer had allowed a run in consecutive outings, so it's nice to see him clean up efficiently in this one. Melancon may not carry a very impressive strikeout rate by the standards of his peers, but he's still been putting up some of the most unimpeachable ratios in the game for years.

    • Melancon (1-1) blew his third save of the season Tuesday, but earned a win as he was bailed out in the bottom of the ninth by a Josh Harrison triple and a subsequent throwing error by Scooter Gannett to score Harrison and win the game 3-2. After entering the game with a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth, Melancon quickly allowed two baserunners with a walk and a single, and nearly got out of the jam before Hernan Perez knocked a single up the middle to tie the game. Hardly a major implosion, fantasy owners will be happy for Melancon's first win of the season. There has been little to complain about with Melancon this season, who has been one of the game's most consistent closers with a paltry 1.63 ERA.

    • Melancon notched his 27th save by striking out Wilson Contreras for his only out in Friday's 8-4 victory over the Cubs. The Pirates closer was brought in to slam the door after A.J. Schugel got into some trouble with two out. Schugel retired Tommy La Stella and Ben Zobrist to start the top of the ninth before surrendering a Kris Bryant single and issuing a free pass to Anthony Rizzo. Melancon has now successfully converted 23 consecutive save opportunities, and has not given up an earned run since May 15.
