Aumont signed a minor league deal with the White Sox on Monday, Josh Norris of Baseball America reports. Aumont once rated as a top-100 prospect and was included in a Clif Lee trade, but he has yet to do much in his 46 career major league appearances, and he did nil in the Blue Jays' organization after signing mid-2015. He will attempt to resurrect his career in a White Sox's organization that has previously revived previously-heralded arms.
Phillies pitcher Phillippe Aumont elected free agency after being designated for assignment on Saturday. Aumont did not perform well in his first career start Friday against the Cardinals, allowing six runs in four innings.
The Phillies purchased the contract of pitcher Seth Rosin , the team announced on Saturday. Rosin appeared in three games with Texas last season in his only other MLB experience. He was 2-1 with three saves and a 2.65 ERA at Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season. To make room, the Phillies designated pitcher Phillippe Aumont for assignment. Aumont suffered a loss in his only appearance with the Phillies.
Phillies right-hander Phillippe Aumont had a rough time in his first career start on Friday night. Aumont lasted just four innings against the Cardinals, allowing six runs on five hits. He struck out three and walked seven. He threw 104 pitches, with just 56 going for strikes, as the Cardinals went on to win 12-4. Aumont, who was making a spot start for the injured Cole Hamels, gave up a pair of two-run home runs in the second inning, one to Yadier Molina and the other to Kolten Wong. In the fourth, he served up a two-run double to Jhonny Peralta. "It was just a constant battle a little bit with myself," Aumont said, per MLB.com. "That's what it's been my whole career. Just me, myself and I out there battling. Nobody else. Because when I execute my pitches I get these guys out down there and up here. Just keep your chest high and keep working at it. The mental part is a big part of the game, and you've got to be strong at it." The seven walks issued by Aumont are the most for a Phillies pitcher since 2004. It is not yet known if Aumont will get another start, or if he will head to the bullpen (or Triple-A).
Phillies starting pitcher Cole Hamels will not start Friday against the Cardinals due to a hamstring injury, so Philadelphia is dipping into their minor-league system to recall Phillippe Aumont from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to start in Hamels' absence. The Phillies will make a transaction Friday to get Aumont on the active roster. Aumont, who was a 2007 first-round pick, has never started a game at the major-league level. He is 1-5 with a 6.13 ERA in 45 relief appearances. However, he has made 10 starts for Lehigh Valley this season. He is 3-4 with a 2.55 ERA and 1.42 WHIP as a starter at Triple-A in 2015.
