The Astros outrighted pitcher Philip Humber, infielder Brandon Laird and catchers Cody Clark and Matt Pagnozzi off the 40-man roster Wednesday. Humber went 0-8 with a 7.90 ERA in 54 2/3 innings over 17 appearances (seven starts) with the major-league team. Laird hit .169/.224/.423 with five home runs and 11 RBI in 71 at-bats. Clark went 4 for 38 with Houston and hit .217/.258/.273 in 143 at-bats with Triple-A Oklahoma City. Pagnozzi went 3 for 21 with the Astros after being purchased by the team from the Braves in early September.
The Astros have recalled catcher Cody Clark from Triple-A Oklahoma City, MLB.com reports. Clark, 31, will be making his major league debut with the Astros. He is hitting .217/.258/.273 in 44 games for Oklahoma City.
According to the Kansas City Star, the Royals retained some minor-league players on Friday and announced new contracts for pitcher Edgar Osuna, catcher Cody Clark, infielders Irving Falu and John Whittleman and outfielder Paulo Orlando.
