    • Marlins' Moises Sierra: Signs NRI deal with Marlins
      By RotoWire Staff

Sierra signed a minor league contract with the Marlins on Thursday that includes an invite to spring training, MLB.com reports. Sierra totaled 449 plate appearances in the majors between 2012-2014, but he's been stuck in the minors the past two seasons, and was even demoted back to Double-A for the 2016 campaign. He turned in strong results in 82 games with Double-A Jacksonville (.336/.414/.519) and figures to return to the Triple-A level to begin 2017.

    • The last man on the Royals' roster will be either Paulo Orlando or Moises Sierra . The two are battling for the fifth outfielder spot. With just over a week to go in spring training, Orlando seems to have the advantage. "He's done everything well. He plays solid defense in all three outfielder spots. He's a true center fielder," manager Ned Yost said, per MLB.com's Jeffrey Flanagan. "He's swinging the bat really well. He has made great strides the last couple of years. He's athletic and can run. He fits our profile." Orlando is hitting .367 this spring, 47 points higher than Sierra.

    • Royals manager Ned Yost could head into the regular season with a bullpen made up of seven players, reports MLB.com. "It's probably seven," Yost said. "You ask yourself, 'What wins you more games early? The extra guy on the bench? The baserunner late or defensive replacement, or the extra arm?' It hasn't been set. These conversations go day to day. You look at the ability to mix and match offensively versus carrying the extra arm." With an extra roster spot available in that scenario, Yost could give the spot to another bench player. Yost said he'd prefer that to be an outfielder and could come down to Moises Sierra and Paulo Orlando.
