The Dodgers have signed third baseman Josh Bell and pitchers Romulo Sanchez, Henry Sosa, Fu-Te Ni, Drew Carpenter, Sam Demel, Josh Judy, Josh Ravin, Jack McGeary and Juan Abreu to minor-league deals, Baseball America reports.
The Dodgers signed right-hander Sam Demel to a minor-league deal Thursday. Demel, who has major-league experience with the Diamondbacks, spent 2013 in the Yankees organization, posting a 1.72 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 11.2 strikeouts per nine innings in 35 appearances at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said the team is mulling its roster options after placing reliever Joba Chamberlain (oblique) on the disabled list Thursday. Cashman said Chien-Ming Wang is not in the mix to take Chamberlain's roster spot, but Mark Montgomery, Preston Claiborne and Sam Demel are candidates in the short term.
Sam Demel, who was acquired by the Yankees earlier this week, will be heading to the minors. The Yankees have outrighted the Demel to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday. The right-hander has yet to make a spring appearance with the team, but has allowed 11 runs in 2 1/3 innings of work with the Astros this spring.
The Yankees have acquired pitcher Sam Demel on a waiver claim from the Astros. Demel spent most of last season in Triple-A, but does have major-league experience. Demel tossed 63 2/3 innings with the Diamondbacks from 2010 to 2012. He has a 4.95 ERA and a 4.75 FIP over those innings.
