The Pirates announced Friday they cut 12 players from major-league camp. They optioned Bobby LaFromboise to Triple-A, while reassigning Deolis Guerra, Gorkys Hernandez, Charlie Leesman, Brad Lincoln, Steve Lombardozzi, Brent Morel, Gustavo Nunez , Deibinson Romero, Jose Tabata, Sebastian Valle and Josh Wall to minor-league camp.
The White Sox have released pitcher Charlie Leesman, shortly after designating him for assignment. Leesman posted a 4.10 ERA in 66 2/3 innings at Triple-A Charlotte this season.
The White Sox made several roster moves Saturday, including the activation off the 60-day disabled list of outfielder Avisail Garcia. The team also played outfielder Moises Sierra on the DL with a strained left oblique, designated left-handed pitcher Charlie Leesman for assignment, placed right-hander Javy Guerra on the bereavement list and recalled southpaw Eric Surkamp from Triple-A Charlotte.
The White Sox optioned Charlie Leesman to Triple-A Charlotte Wednesday. Leesman was scheduled to make Sunday's start, so the team will have to come up with a new plan for that outing. He was moved off the 25-man roster to make room for Gordon Beckham, who is on his way back from the disabled list and is expected to be activated before Friday's game.
White Sox pitcher Charlie Leesman couldn't get out of the third inning Tuesday, giving up six earned runs on nine hits and one walk in 2 2/3 innings in his team's 8-6 loss to the Tigers. Leesman (0-1) had his first crack filling in for Chris Sale, who went on the disabled list this week, and it didn't turn out well. The Tigers scored their first run in the first inning and tacked on five more in the third inning before the Chicago pitcher left the game with two runners on base. If the White Sox keep Leesman in the rotation, he'll face the Rays at home Sunday.
