Mitchell has signed a minor league contract with the Yankees, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports. Mitchell spent most of the 2015 season in the Angels organization, but with limited success offensively. He has the ability to play all three outfield positions, but his lack of consistency on at the dish will likely result in another campaign spent mostly (if not all) in the minors again in 2016.
The White Sox released outfielder Jared Mitchell from Triple-A Charlotte and signed outfielder Tyler Colvin , according to a report by the Chicago Tribune. Mitchell was the White Sox's first-round draft pick in 2009 but never made it to the Majors. He was released after opening the season 2 for 40 (.050) at Charlotte. Colvin has played in 441 Major League games with three teams over the last six seasons.
The White Sox made another round of roster cuts on Wednesday, optioning Matt Davidson, Adrian Nieto, Tyler Saladino, Kevan Smith and Trayce Thompson to Triple-A Charlotte. Martin, Jared Mitchell, Tim Anderson and Tyler Danish to minor-league camp.
White Sox prospect Jared Mitchell was disappointed he didn't make it to the majors in 2014, but he's not letting that keep him from pushing to make it this spring, reports MLB.com. "I took it as disappointment and then kind of like straight to, 'Now that's your motivation.' That helps prepare you for where you need to be," Mitchell said. "If you take it the right way, take it in stride and use it as motivation, it can springboard me into a really good year this year." Mitchell, the team's top pick in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, has the ability, but needs to get more consistent, according to some in management. "Mitch's issue is that he has a different feel every day," said White Sox assistant general manager Buddy Bell. "He's got to trust what he can do, but certainly athletically, there's nobody better. He's as athletic as anyone we have."
The White Sox announced Thursday they added pitcher Frankie Montas, infielder Rangel Ravelo, infielder Tyler Saladino and catcher Kevan Smith to the 40-man roster. They also outrighted outfielder Jared Mitchell to Triple-A Charlotte. Chicago claimed pitcher Onelki Garcia off waivers from the Dodgers and designated pitcher Ronald Belisario for assignment to clear a roster spot.
