    Player Outlook

The 2009 first-round pick was picked up by the Giants after being released by the Blue Jays midseason. His poor play in the Blue Jays system (.201/.292/.309) continued with Triple-A Sacramento (.200/.317/.340). He did get the call to the majors towards the end of September, but it was simply to serve as a third catcher, and he did not get onto the field. Tony Sanchez will turn 29 during the 2017 season, so it may be safe to finally write him off as a failed prospect. Fantasy players shouldn't care much about his minor league deal with the Angels unless he gets a chance to contribute in two-catcher, AL-only games.

    • Angels' Tony Sanchez: Signs with Angels
      By RotoWire Staff

Sanchez signed a minor league deal with the Angels on Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports. Sanchez split the 2016 season in the Blue Jays and Giants' organizations, struggling to stay above the Mendoza Line in Triple-A at both stops. He's had a few brief stints in the majors, but at this point the 28-year-old figures to serve primarily as organizational depth behind the plate and will likely open the season back at Triple-A.

Sanchez was outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Sanchez split the 2016 season between two organizations, those being the Blue Jays and the Giants. He played with each clubs' respective Triple-A affiliate, but failed to make much of an impact. Over 61 games, he hit just .201/.351/.399 and posted a 22 percent K-rate.

    • Sanchez signed a minor-league contract with the Giants, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports. Sanchez posted a poor line of .201/.292/.309 over 45 games with Toronto's Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo before being released on July 28. With Buster Posey at catcher for the Giants, the chances of Sanchez making it up to The Show this season are very slim. In the meantime, he'll simply provide depth behind the plate at Triple-A Sacramento.

    • Sanchez signed a minor league deal with the Blue Jays on Friday, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Sanchez was released by the Pirates last month but will have a chance to catch on with the Blue Jays, as the deal includes an invite to spring training. The 27-year-old, a former first-round pick, appeared in only three major league games last season, spending the bulk of the year at Triple-A Indianapolis. It seems likely that he'll wind up with the Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate (Buffalo) to begin the year, though Toronto is relatively thin at catcher so he could be summoned should there be an injury to Russell Martin, Josh Thole, or A.J. Jiminez.
