Red Sox outfielder Ryan Westmoreland announced his retirement from professional baseball Wednesday, at the age of 22. Westmoreland, a former top prospect, had his career derailed by a series of issues that required surgery to remove a cavernous malformation from his brain stem. Westmoreland suffered a setback last summer that required a second surgery. In a statement, Westmoreland said that he is pursuing a different path, but hopes to get back into baseball in another capacity.
