    • Josh Beckett announces plans to retire
      By R.J. White

Dodgers pitcher Josh Beckett announced his retirement after the Dodgers were eliminated from the playoffs Tuesday night, MLB.com reports. Beckett, who last pitched on Aug. 3, had his final season end prematurely due to a torn labrum in his hip. "I just don't see me going through that rehab and coming back to pitch at this point in my life," he said. Beckett delivered a 2.88 ERA and 107:39 K:BB ratio in 115 2/3 innings during his final season. He ends his career with a 138-106 record, 3.88 ERA and 1,901 strikeouts in 2,051 innings. He was named the MVP of the 2003 World Series while pitching for the Marlins and was part of two World Series titles with the 2003 Marlins and 2007 Red Sox.
