The Royals have called up four players from Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday. Catcher Francisco Pena , infielder Christian Colon and outfielders Cheslor Cuthbert and Terrance Gore have been added to the Royals' active roster.
The Royals have sent shortstop Christian Colon to Triple-A Omaha and promoted fellow infielder Dusty Coleman from the same team, MLB.com has reported. Colon played sparingly after a stint as a starter in the wake of an injury to Alcides Escobar. A 3-for-22 slide has lowered his average from .286 to .244. The 28-year-old Coleman should finally receive an opportunity to make his big-league debut, but his promotion might be mistimed. He is in a 2-for-17 slump, though his slash line still stands at a fine .303/.383/.469.
Alcides Escobar returned to the Royals' starting lineup on Friday. Escobar was activated from the 7-day disabled list earlier in the day. He will play shortstop and lead off. Christian Colon, who started all seven games that Escobar missed, moves to third base to replace Mike Moustakas, placed on the bereavement list earlier in the day. It's the first start Moustakas has missed this season. Colon will bat ninth.
Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar, who is currently on the 7-day concussion list, was not activated before Thursday's game against the Indians. However, Escobar could be nearing a return, as he took grounders before the game, according to MLB.com, which could determine if he is cleared to return to the lineup. Christian Colon will continue to be the starting shortstop until Escobar is ready to come back.
Perhaps unsurpisingly, Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar was not in the starting lineup on Thursday against the Tigers. Escobar left Wednesday's game against the Indians after being hit by a pitch in the face and has been diagnosed with a left cheek contusion. Christian Colon made the start at shortstop on Thursday. Colon has had limited playing time in 2015 and is hitting .269 (7 for 26) with a double and a stolen base. Left fielder Alex Gordon will move up to the leadoff spot in the lineup for the first time this season. Escobar has been the Royals' leadoff hitter in all but two games in 2015. Gordon is currently ranked ninth in the American League with a .413 on-base percentage. Escobar is hoping to return to the Royals lineup on Friday or Saturday, according to the Kansas City Star
