The Angels released Pomeranz on Sunday. The veteran left-hander was in camp as a non-roster invitee and allowed five runs with a 6:3 K:BB over eight innings during spring training. Pomeranz has battled elbow issues over the past couple years and last pitched in the majors in 2021 with San Diego.... See More ... See Less

Angels' Drew Pomeranz: Inks deal with Halos
Pomeranz (elbow) agreed to a minor-league contract with the Angels on Tuesday that includes an invitation to big-league spring training, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Pomeranz has been sidelined the past two seasons with elbow issues, so he'll have to settle for a minor-league deal in 2024. The left-hander could provide some solid bullpen depth if he can stay healthy, given the 1.75 ERA he posted the last time he pitched in the majors during 2021.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Shut down with elbow pain
Pomeranz has been shut down for the year due to renewed elbow discomfort, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Pomeranz restarted a minor-league rehab assignment in late August, but he allowed six earned runs over 3.1 innings (four appearances) before his troublesome left elbow began barking again. The 34-year-old impending free agent hasn't pitched in a major-league game since 2021.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Rocked again in rehab outing
Pomeranz (elbow) pitched two-thirds of an inning for Triple-A El Paso in a rehab appearance Friday, allowing four runs on four hits and one walk without notching any strikeouts. Pomeranz hasn't pitched in the majors since 2021, so some rustiness isn't unexpected. Still, the Padres may not want to activate him until he begins throwing more effectively -- in hist last two outings with El Paso, he's allowed six runs on five hits and three walks with just one punchout over 1.1 frames. It's not yet clear when San Diego plans to have Pomeranz rejoin the big-league club, though the veteran reliever has previously indicated a determination to pitch for the Padres before the end of the season.... Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Moves rehab to Triple-A
Pomeranz (elbow) shifted his rehab assignment to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday and gave up two runs on one hit and two walks while recording two outs. Pomeranz needed 25 pitches just to retire two of the five batters he faced in his first rehab outing at Triple-A and the second of his assignment overall after he previously tossed a scoreless inning for Single-A Lake Elsinore last Friday. The veteran southpaw has remained on the Padres' 60-day injured list all season and will likely require at least a handful of outings at El Paso before being deemed ready to rejoin the big-league bullpen.... Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Restarts rehab assignment
Pomeranz (elbow) pitched one inning for Single-A Lake Elsinore on Friday, striking out all three batters he faced in a scoreless inning. Pomeranz had previously engaged in a minor-league rehab stint in late April but ended up getting shut down from throwing after three outings due to continued elbow discomfort. The lefty reliever hasn't pitched in the majors since undergoing flexor tendon surgery in August of 2021, and he also dealt with a neck strain this spring. If he doesn't encounter any setbacks in his current rehab assignment, Pomeranz could be back in the Padres' bullpen in early September.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Engaged in throwing program
Pomeranz (elbow) has been throwing for weeks and stills intends to return to the Padres' bullpen this season, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Pomeranz hasn't pitched in a big-league game since 2021 and has encountered multiple setbacks this season while attempting to return. The lefty reliever underwent an arthroscopic procedure in late May to clean up "junk" in his throwing elbow but has since resumed a throwing program. However, Pomeranz hasn't yet tossed any bullpens and will need to restart a minor-league rehab assignment before potentially being activated from the 60-day IL, so he remains at least several weeks away from pitching for the Padres. The veteran did say that he foresees returning this season, stating, "I'm determined to get back to where I was. There's still time left."... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Undergoes elbow 'cleanup'
Padres manager Bob Melvin said Pomeranz underwent "cleanup surgery" on his elbow Tuesday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. It sounds like arthroscopic surgery, which carries a far shorter timetable than other elbow procedures and will keep hope alive that Pomeranz can be a contributor at some point in 2023. He hasn't appeared in a major-league game since 2021 due to a range of different injuries, the most notable of those being a flexor tendon strain.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Bumped to 60-day IL
The Padres transferred Pomeranz (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday. The move clears up a spot on the 40-man roster for Drew Carlton, who had his contract selected from Triple-A El Paso prior to Monday's clash against Kansas City. Pomeranz is currently rehabbing from a left elbow flexor tendon surgery and remains without a firm timetable for a return after being pulled off his rehab assignment in late April due to left arm discomfort.... Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Resuming rehab assignment
Pomeranz (arm) will join Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday to begin a rehab assignment. Pomeranz opened the season on the 15-day injured list while he continued to recover from left elbow flexor tendon surgery, and though he started up a rehab assignment April 18, he made just three appearances before being shut down after experiencing renewed discomfort in his surgically repaired arm. He was idle for about a week before he resumed throwing again, and he now appears ready to test himself in a competitive setting. Expect Pomeranz to make at least a couple of appearances for El Paso before the Padres consider activating him.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Showing improvement
Pomeranz is experiencing reduced discomfort in his left arm, and he could resume his throwing progression soon, per MLB.com. Pomeranz was pulled from a minor-league rehab assignment after just one game in late April as a result of discomfort in his throwing arm, but the issue has reportedly "mostly subsided." The veteran reliever appears to have a chance to start throwing again soon, though the Padres may want to be cautious given the series of setbacks Pomeranz has experienced as he's attempted to work his way back to the big club. The 34-year-old hasn't pitched in the majors since 2021.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Shut down from throwing program
Pomeranz (neck) has been shut down after experiencing discomfort in his throwing arm during his latest rehab appearance, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. The veteran southpaw gave up three earned runs while recording one out in his most recent rehab appearance with Triple-A El Paso, likely suffering the injury during that appearance. Pomeranz was returning from flexor tendon surgery when a neck strain delayed his rehab in early April, and now his arm has started barking again. He should be considered out indefinitely.... Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Moves rehab to Triple-A
Pomeranz (neck/elbow) shifted his rehab assignment to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Pomeranz logged two perfect innings with Single-A Lake Elsinore and should finally be cleared to return to the Padres' bullpen after maybe one or two appearances with El Paso. The lefty reliever hasn't pitched in a major-league game since 2021 due to flexor tendon surgery and subsequent complications.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Getting closer to return
Pomeranz (neck/elbow) will need at least one one more rehab outing before being activated from the injured list, per MLB.com. Pomeranz has appeared in two games with Single-A Lake Elsinore thus far, hurling two perfect innings and notching one strikeout. It appears the veteran hurler could be ready to join the Padres' bullpen after one more rehab outing, which would be a much-needed boost to a relief corps that is currently without Robert Suarez (elbow) and fellow lefty Adrian Morejon (elbow), among others. Pomeranz hasn't pitched in a big-league game since August of 2021, so he may be used in lower-leverage situations initially.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Hurls perfect frame in rehab outing
Pomeranz (neck/elbow) struck out one batter in a perfect inning for Single-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday. This was Pomeranz's first rehab outing of the campaign and just his sixth time appearing in a game at any level since 2021. The veteran reliever is attempting to work his way back to the majors after flexor tendon surgery and a subsequent setback kept him away from the Padres for all of 2022. The length of Pomeranz's rehab assignment isn't yet clear, but manager Bob Melvin has suggested that it could be on the short side, per MLB.com.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Cleared for rehab assignment
Pomeranz (neck/elbow) is set to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Single-A Lake Elsinore. Pomeranz was supposed to begin appearing in minor-league games last week before a neck strain caused a short delay. He hasn't thrown a pitch at the MLB level since August 2021 due to flexor tendon surgery, but that could change by the end of this month.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Expected to start rehab soon
Pomeranz (neck, elbow) threw a bullpen Sunday and is expected to begin a rehab assignment this week with Low-A Lake Elsinore, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Pomeranz won't go to Triple-A El Paso to begin his rehab with the club heading to Triple-A Tacoma this week. The southpaw is working his way back from flexor tendon surgery in August 2021, but his rehab was delayed by a neck strain suffered last week. Pomeranz reported back to San Diego to receive treatment on his neck, and he has a chance to pitch in the Cal League for the Storm by the end of the week.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Neck strain delays rehab
Pomeranz (elbow) was diagnosed Thursday with a neck strain, delaying his minor-league rehab assignment, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Pomeranz was supposed to begin pitching for Triple-A El Paso on Thursday, but he's run into another setback in his return from August 2021 flexor tendon surgery. At least it's not related to his forearm or elbow. The estimated timetable for his 2023 debut will probably have to be pushed back at least a week or two.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Set for rehab outing
Pomeranz (elbow) will make a minor-league rehab appearance with Triple-A El Paso on Thursday, Sammy Levitt of 97.3 The Fan reports. Pomeranz was thought to be close to pitching in games in mid-March, but he suffered a setback after tossing a few sim games and was eventually placed on the injured list to begin the season. He appears to be back on the road to recovery from the August 2021 flexor tendon surgery that wiped out all of his 2022 campaign, but he'll likely need at least a few rehab appearances before joining San Diego's bullpen. Pomeranz last appeared in a major-league contest Aug. 10, 2021.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Placed on 15-day IL
Pomeranz (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to March 27. Pomeranz was delayed this spring by lingering elbow inflammation, but he did recently resume mound work and might be ready to hop into the Padres' bullpen sometime before the end of April....
