    • Tigers' Zack Cox: Inks minor league deal with Tigers
      By RotoWire Staff

Cox signed a minor league contract with the Tigers on Thursday, Anthony French of the Detroit Free Press reports. The former first-round draft pick is a .285 hitter in six minor league seasons, but he hasn't been able to crack the major leagues due to his high strikeout rates. Due to this, Cox will likely be an organizational depth piece moving forward.

    • Is Zack Cox still keeper worthy?
      By Michael Hurcomb

What's going on with Zack Cox? He's coming off one bad season in the minors and it seems his major-league hopes are quickly fading. If you recall, Cox was considered the best pure hitter in the 2010 MLB draft, according to Baseball America, and the first-round pick didn't disappoint by hitting .306 in his first full season in 2011. Unfortunately, Cox hit .254 in 108 games during an injury-plagued 2012 campaign and was shipped to Miami for a middle reliever, which took some of the shine off his burgeoning prospects. But Cox admitted he rushed back too soon from two separate injuries (concussion, hamstring) last season, and he tried to become more of a power hitter, which contributed to his offensive struggles, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Cox added he's returned to the form that made him successful in college and in his first pro season. Obviously, the Marlins hope they can sneak Cox through waivers and they might. But I don't think his story is done. Cox might never have elite power for a corner infielder, which hurts his long-term Fantasy appeal, but if he gets back to being a solid contact hitter and improves on his defense, then I don't see why he can't hold some keeper value in very deep formats.
