The Tigers optioned pitchers Kyle Lobstein, Alex Wilson and Josh Zeid to Triple-A Toledo Tuesday while also reassigning pitcher Alberto Cabrera to minor-league camp, the team announced. Lobstein allowed four earned runs in 10 innings this spring. Wilson surrendered 10 runs (six earned) in 6 2/3 innings. Zeid gave up six earned runs in 7 2/3 innings. The moves leave the Tigers with 39 players in major-league camp.
Cubs pitcher Alberto Cabrera has cleared waivers, and has been sent to Triple-A, according to ESPN. Cabrera was designated for assignment March 29, but was unclaimed through the waiver process. Cabrera posted a 6.97 ERA in 10 1/3 spring innings.
The Cubs have added Brian Schlitter to their bullpen and designated for assignment fellow right-hander Alberto Cabrera. The 28-year-old Schlitter pitched briefly for the team in 2010, but was clobbered for 11 runs on 18 hits in eight innings.
The Cubs made a few roster moves Sunday as rosters expanded. The Cubs activated outfielder Ryan Sweeney (rib) and infielder Luis Valbuena (oblique) from the disabled list, while recalling pitcher Alberto Cabrera from Triple-A Iowa. In order to make room for Sweeney on the 40-man roster, reliever Eduardo Sanchez was designated for assignment. Sweeney was on the 60-day disabled list.
The Cubs have promoted pitcher Alberto Cabrera to Triple-A Iowa, MLB.com reports. Converted into a starting pitcher this season after pitching in relief in 2012, Cabrera is 9-3 with a 3.20 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 107:39 K:BB ratio in 112 2/3 innings over 18 starts.
