    The White Sox recalled Ruiz from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday. With Tim Anderson (personal) moving to the paternity list, Ruiz will be up with the big club for at least a couple of days to fill the opening on the active roster. Ruiz has made seven career appearances in the majors and will likely only be in line for lower-leverage work out of Chicago's bullpen.

  • White Sox's Jose Ruiz: Claimed by White Sox

    Ruiz was claimed off waivers by the White Sox on Friday, Bruce Levine of WSCR-AM reports. Ruiz was removed from the 40-man roster last week after the Padres acquired Freddy Galvis from Philadelphia, and he will now become a member of the White Sox's organization after spending much of 2017 at the High-A level. In 44 appearances, he accumulated a 5.98 ERA and 1.67 WHIP, while sporting a 45:25 K:BB over 49.2 innings. The 23-year-old right-hander could wind up starting out next season at the Double-A level, but will need more seasoning in the minors before he's ready to take on major-league hitting.

    Ruiz was designated for assignment by the Padres on Friday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Ruiz was moved off the 40-man roster following the club's acquisition of Freddy Galvis from the Phillies, in exchange for Enyel De Los Santos. During the 2017 season, Ruiz made one appearance at the big-league level, and spent most of his time in High-A. The right-hander posted a 5.98 ERA and 1.67 WHIP over 49.2 innings of relief work.

  • Padres' Jose Ruiz: Returns to Lake Elsinore

    Ruiz was optioned to High-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday. The 22-year-old made his major-league debut Monday night, firing a scoreless frame with a walk and a strikeout. He'll head back to the minors to develop further now that he's unavailable to pitch for a day or two, allowing Kyle Lloyd to join the big-league roster in order to make Tuesday's start.

    The Rangers re-assigned seven players to minor league camp on Saturday, reducing their number in camp to 41. Those sent to the minors were non-roster invitees 1B Chad Tracy, 1B Jose Ruiz, pitchers Seth McClung, Cody Eppley and Ryan Tucker, IF Brian Barden and C Jose Felix.
