INJURY ALERT: Probable | Shoulder | Probable for start of season

    Player Outlook

With his third major-league team in just his second major-league season, Enrique Hernandez looked much like the hitter who broke through at Triple-A two years ago. Granted, he was much more effective against lefties (batting .423 with a 1.215 OPS) than righties (batting .234 with a .592 OPS) and is perhaps best used as a platoon player, but a split that extreme is to some degree luck of the draw. The Dodgers were ready to make him their everyday center fielder (against both righties and lefties) with Joc Pederson struggling in late August, but that's when Hernandez suffered an ill-timed hamstring injury. He likely won't get a chance at everyday at-bats to begin the year, not with Howie Kendrick returning to play second base, but his versatility will make him a regular fill-in. His power potential and possibility for semi-regular at-bats even if he remains a utility player make him an interesting late-round target in deeper leagues.

    Player News
    • Hernandez has not experienced any setbacks in his recovery from right-shoulder surgery, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports. Although it was just minor surgery, this is great news for both the Dodgers and Hernandez. Going into 2016 the 24-year-old will look to build off his success from last season when he hit .307 and will likely be the Dodgers top utility player.

    • Hernandez had surgery on his right shoulder Wednesday, Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports. The surgery was considered very minor, and Hernandez is planning to start physical training next week. This will allow Hernandez to be ready for the start of spring training.

    • Dodgers utility player Enrique Hernandez is set to start and lead off in Game 4 of the National League Division Series against the Mets on Tuesday. Hernandez was relegated to the eight spot in the batting order during Games 2 and 3, but in a do-or-die situation, Don Mattingly will roll out an unconventional lineup featuring the 24-year-old hitting first. Hernandez had actually hit there seven other times this season, posting a .310 average in 29 at-bats.

    • Dodgers outfielder Joc Pederson is not in the lineup for Game 2 of the National League Division Series against the Mets on Saturday. Pederson went hitless Friday, so Don Mattingly decided to change things up in center field and will give Enrique Hernandez the start.

      By RotoWire Staff

The Dodgers activated infielder Enrique Hernandez (hamstring) from the disabled list Monday, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports. Hernandez is ready to go after missing a month with his hamstring injury. He will not start Monday, though, and will likely fill mainly a situational role the rest of the way.
