Roach was outrighted to Triple-A Nashville on Thursday. The 26-year-old journeyman arm is another 40-man roster casualty in Oakland's flood of Thursday moves. Roach's career 5.77 ERA in 39 career big-league innings reflects his lack of fantasy value.
Roach was claimed off waivers by the A's on Monday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Roach will join the A's after being designated for assignment by the Tigers on Saturday. Roach has options remaining, so the A's were able to assign him to Triple-A Nashville, where he will provide depth during the team's minor-league postseason run.
Roach was designated for assignment on Saturday. Roach failed to establish himself as a valuable source of bullpen depth after the Tigers claimed him off waivers in early August. This move allows Detroit to add lefty Joe Mantiply to the 40-man roster. Roach put up a 3.03 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 21:5 K:BB in 29.2 innings with Triple-A Toledo.
Roach was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Saturday, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports. Roach was removed from the 40-man roster to open a spot for Pat Venditte. He could garner a look on the waiver wire, but figures to remain with Triple-A Tacoma if he clears waivers.
Roach was optioned back to Triple-A Tacoma prior to Seattle's game Thursday. Roach was only with the team for a few days after coming up Monday, but appeared in Tuesday's contest against the Red Sox, giving up one earned run during two innings of work. The 26-year-old will head back to Tacoma, where he has amassed a 4.21 ERA over the course of 17 starts this season. Roach may get called up again by the team later this season.
